2900M Scorpione dei Mari
The Scorpione dei Mari – a Jongert 2900 M – came in first and second in the last two years of the prestigious, three-day sailing challenge The Superyacht Cup Palma. In 2010, the Ithaka – a Jongert 2700 M – came in third amidst an international field of challengers. In 2011, only one Jongert yacht took part.
‘Once again, it was a particularly tough competition with twenty-one yachts entering from Vitters Shipyard, Pendennis Shipyard, Baltic Yachts and Claasen Jachtbouw,’ recounts a Jongert representative. ‘The Scorpione dei Mari’s crewmembers are all people with extensive experience and exceptional enthusiasm, but for whom this is not their daily work. This proves all the more that it’s about a combination of the yacht’s quality and design, and the crew’s determination. As well as the fact that this yacht is unusually comfortable for its crewmembers, it’s also an absolute winner.’
The yacht has been designed and built from aluminium with a carbon mast and boom. ‘It’s a yacht that performs excellently in both light winds and heavy conditions. Ultimate performance requires that the crew respond properly and quickly to changing conditions. For example, the skipper decided to remove the radar from the mast this year to lower the vessel’s centre of gravity, thus enabling him to carry more sail and to tack more easily. This allowed the crew to perform exceptionally well in both close-hauled and broad-reach legs. The Scorpione dei Mari and her crew form a winning combination.’
