So while the one suits the owner’s demands for a fast family cruising boat, the next may have a more ‘racy’ feel to it. The Jongert 2900CR combines an easily-driven hull capable of reaching speeds up to 13.5 knots with spacious accommodation and on-deck amenities worthy of a luxury penthouse. Ideally suited to light weather sailing, she is capable of accelerating fast without being uncomfortable. The 2900CR is designed for cruising the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, as well as possible forays to North America and beyond. And, for an owner wants to play a hands-on role and be involved in all aspects of running the boat; the skipper and a single deckhand are all the help that’s needed while cruising with the owner on board. A total of three can easily manage the boat on longer passages and deliveries.
The design brief was to design a yacht capable of cruising the Mediterranean in comfort with family, and some of the more eye-catching features on the 2900CR are clearly designed with this in mind. Take for instance the wheelhouse roof, a sleek and purposeful-looking structure built to withstand everything the ocean can throw at it. When the sun is shining, however, the whole thing slides away to reveal a comfortable sitting area – ideal for those lazy summer lunches.
Likewise the ‘well’ on the foredeck which, while on passage, provides a safe, unobtrusive stowage for the tender. Pop the dinghy in the water, fill the well with water, and you’ve got a built-in Jacuzzi with the best views in the world! Further aft, the transom opens up at the press of a button to reveal a bathing platform, as well as further stowage for a diving compressor, surfboards and other toys.
