Motor Yachts
The First Large Motor Yacht
Soon after the takeover, the yard launched its first motor yacht, the Lucia M, a Jongert 3900 MY. At that time, it was the largest motor yacht that had ever been built at the Jongert yard. ‘This fast, semi-displacement, aluminium yacht is also typically Jongert,’ states Eel Kant. ‘It combines Jongert quality with excellent handling and technological innovation.’
The way in which the yacht manoeuvres even at high speed is remarkable. ‘Over 200 metric tons handle as though you were steering a runabout. Even at 29 knots, the yacht reacts responsively without even the slightest hint of losing control. A Williamson turn is no problem whatsoever at this speed. At 29 knots, it can also be brought to a halt within three boat lengths when executing a crash-stop.’
On board the Lucia M, the emphasis has been placed on privacy, luxury, comfort and spaciousness. The yacht has been fitted with a number of special facilities to offer its owner the highest possible quality. The two-person master cabin has been positioned to take advantage of the yacht’s entire width. A large skylight has been fitted above the bath that can be darkened electrically. From the master cabin, the owner has direct access to the gym and steam bath on the forepeak. The half-open flybridge is fitted with a bar, lounge area and sundeck.
Another New Motor Yacht in 2011
Based on the success of the 3900 MY, Jongert started designing the LE 500 at the end of 2010 in partnership with Azure Naval Architects and Guido de Groot Design. The LE 500 is a motor yacht measuring 50 m [164 ft] in length and has a gross tonnage of slightly less than 500. The yacht has a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system using lithium-ion batteries. A unique feature of this yacht is its lift and full wheelchair accessibility.
The first two yachts will be fitted out as limited editions. ‘Complete with tenders, jet skis, diving suits and equipment, a china service, bed linen, gym equipment and everything you could possibly imagine on board such a yacht.’ One of the many unusual systems on board the LE 500 is its telescopic anchor. ‘This allows the yacht to be moored quickly and easily in any spot in depths of up to 15 m [50 ft]. The anchor system prevents the yacht from drifting or turning. It makes it possible to go for a quick dip in any nice spot that grabs your fancy. It’s also completely safe to swim close to the boat.’
If required, Jongert can also provide a complete crew. Service even extends to having the yacht ready to sail whenever the owner wants to depart – its fridges and freezers fully stocked and a full set of spare parts on board.
The first contract for a LE 500 has already been signed. ‘The decision to adopt the VeKa Group strategy seems to be working successfully. There’s a lot of demand for these larger motor yachts.’
